Library
VGI is endowed with a fully computerized main library with an area of 1164 sq.m., which has a collection of nearly 32218 books including 11101 Reference Books, 2173 CD ROMs, besides subscribing to nearly 56 printed journals & magazines, 1090 online international journals & magazines and 8 daily Newspapers. In addition, it has a collection of 124 back volumes of Journals and Magazines. A comfortably furnished reading room provides conducive environment for its readers. Apart from this, individual departments have their own specialized collection of books. The Library maintains a separate section of Encyclopedias, which consists all its kinds like BRITANICA, AMERICANA, etc.
The library has a special collection of books for the various examinations, which includes TOEFL, GRE, GATE (all Branches), UPSC and TNPSC. The DELNET access is provided for the Faculty members, Students and Research Scholars for the benefit of resource sharing in the field of Science and technology. Library has 37 titles of online journals which are available in soft copy form for a period of three to ten years. A list of all research articles for the above period is in hard copy as a ready reckoner for easy access. The Library has also subscribed necessary E –Resources as per AICTE Norms. Besides, Core Departments have facilities viz.. Own departmental library & NPTEL Video facility. Our Library is enriched with institutional Membership under National Digital Library of India. The Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) is available in our Library.
Membership:
Every staff / student of the college is eligible for membership of the Library. The students are enrolled for the Library membership as soon as they are admitted in first year. For others, membership cards will be issued on requisition by the member and further approval by Head of the Institution. All members should abide by the rules of library strictly.

Circulation Section:
Circulation Section , the gateway between users and library, it plays a vital role in Library & Information Centre which is maintained through exclusive (Libmen) software for issues, returns and renewals of books and other related services. In addition, membership registration, no dues clearance, reservation, overdue fine collections are executed.
A new student has to collect the membership form available at circulation section. After collecting the Library cards, he/she can barrow books from the Library. Principal is empowered to increase additional issue of books to whomever he/she feels necessary.
The user’s entitlements, in terms of number of cards, books that they borrow and the loan period for different categories of members are given below:
Reference Section:
The Reference section of the Library houses the Library’s reference books; those that are meant to provide quick and accessible information on any particular topic. Reference books include topics that are intended to guide researchers in their studies, but not to be major sources for a paper or other projects. The reference collection contains information on a wealth of topics. Reference section also includes materials such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, bibliographies, among others.
Reference books are meant to be accessible to as many people as possible. The Reference section in the Central Library can be found on the Library’s ground floor, Reference items may be shelved in a reference collection located separately from circulation Items (Books) or Individual reference only items available for keeping.
Reprographic Section:
Based on requisition, photocopies of the library documents are made available mainly for academic purpose, subject to the following conditions:
Documents protected under the Copy Right Act will not be reproduced entirely for personal use.
The copying charges are Rs.1 per copy.
E-Resources Section:
The Online section of the Library allows access to all online and digital resources available in the Library.

Users’ Assistance:
All members of the library team are available for any assistance the user may need in using the library resources, facilities and services.
Book Bank Section:
Book bank facility is made available to poor student under the guidance of library advisory committee. The book bank is created with help of benevolent mind who come forward to donate books for this cause.
Rules :
- Strict silence is observed in the Library.
- Personal belongings are not allowed inside the Library.
- Every staff / student of the college is eligible for membership of the Library
- The Library can be utilized by the students and staff from 9 A.M. to 6.30 P.M. on working days.
- All Members should sign the entry register of the Library.
- The borrowable limit of books: Faculty – 5, Non Teaching staff – 3, Student – 3.
- Three books can be borrowed by students. The borrowed books (including Tamil books) can be kept only for ten (10) days from the date of issue. The renewal of the books can be made on the 10th day of issuance and extended for further period of 5 days. Possession of book by the student beyond the renewal date will incur fine.
- Reference books will be issued to students for one day only on emergency conditions.
- Borrower’s tickets are not transferable.
- Books are to be handled very carefully. If a book is lost by the student, he/she shall replace the book (same title, author and edition) or shall pay triple the cost of the book as fine.
- Members before leaving the issue counter must satisfy themselves as to whether the books which they intend to borrow are in good condition and any damage should be immediately reported to the Librarian or library staff, failing which the member to whom the book was issued will be held responsible.
- Members are not permitted to underline, write in, folding / tearing of pages or deface books, otherwise they will be fined in accordance with the damage.
- The borrowed book should be returned on or before due date, If not, overdue charge of Rs.2. per day for students will be collected.
- If the due date falls on holidays, return can be done on the following working day without fine.
- Misbehavior in the library will lead to cancellation of membership and serious disciplinary action.
- A member who has lost borrower’s token shall make a written report to the librarian, then original or duplicate library token will be issued on payment of Rs. 50/-
- The members will be responsible for any loss or non return of books issued against their original or duplicate borrower’s ticket.
- All final year students should return their library token and library book based on library circular and obtain “NO DUE CERTIFICATE” from the library for getting Hall ticket.
- Similarly, the staff members who intend to leave the college should settle all the dues and obtain “NO DUE CERTIFICATE” from the library.
- Students & Faculty members can take Photocopy for Question Bank, Journal Articles and all other reference documents at the rate of Re. 1.00 per copy.
- Access of Pen Drive is strictly prohibited.
